Pickleball vandal strikes twice

Embrace the reset. Wheel of Fortune dinks.

The Mouse has spoken: pickleball has a place at Disney resorts.

A brief statement from the megacompany says they’ve hooked up their tennis courts at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Bay Lake Tower, Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village, and Old Key West Resort with pickleball equipment.

My only question: if you pull off a body-bag, do a few of Mickey’s cohorts escort you to Disney jail? Nightmare fuel.

If so, see you in the slammer. I’ll bet they got Goofy on a foot fault.

The Fatal Mistake

It’s a bad habit in intermediate pickleball. When players get uncomfortable they resort to the all-or-nothing option.

  • A little off-balanced? Try to smack a winner down the middle.

  • Get pulled off the side of the court? Why not snipe the back corner.

  • Lob fly over your head and land in? Time to break out the tweener.

In all of these scenarios, a reset is the better option. The key is not to panic when you get a little uncomfortable. It’s the hardest thing to do in pickleball, and sports generally.

Employ composure when it matters most.

Embrace the long drawn-out points. Use the reset to your advantage. It’s what makes the game of pickleball beautiful.

The 7ft NVZ on the other side of the net provides a safe place to land any ball. It’s a port in the storm. The great equalizer that makes pickleball a game where power and athleticism can be neutralized with finesse and precision.

In higher-level pickleball, players are comfortable resetting the ball in all types of scenarios. They’re used to stretched out rallies and the advantage shifting back and forth in a single point.

Next time you hit the court, don’t be a hero. Embrace being uncomfortable. Be patient with your points.

Instead of ripping a high-risk winner, get reps in on the reset. It will pay off in the long run.

Picklecrime in the Bay State

Ever hear of a “Masshole?” It’s a term that people in Massachusetts and surrounding New Englanders use to describe residents of the titular state. Usually, it’s a harmless joke.

But a pickleball criminal in the town of Needham, MA gives the term a whole new meaning.

A string of senseless, grisly picklecrimes have been committed there. Local police are investigating after somebody slashed the nets at Mills Field.

We get the message, Masshole. You don’t like pickleball. I wonder who could be responsible?

Several picklers informed local media there was a recent argument between tennis players & pickleball players over sharing the courts, but they don't know if there was a connection…

Don’t know if there was a conn…don’t be naïve, MA picklers! This is case is practically closed!

In another incident, the nets were thrown out of the courts and, well, disembodied seems like the only word for it:

"A year ago January we started and there were five of us. Now it is close to 1,100. It's just exponentially blown up," said pickleball player Paul Pasquarosa, illuminating what is clearly a tense situation between the onslaught of picklers and the people who used to have the tennis courts all to themselves.

Police have been assigned to patrol the areas while the investigation continues.

I’d Like to Solve the Puzzle

No need to buy a vowel. We all know the answer is pickleball.

On Monday night, Pat and Vanna were dinking on stage on one of the nation's favorite game shows. (The video is a little hard to watch, but click here if you want to see it).

According to CBS Media Ventures, Wheel of Fortune is "the second most-watched show in syndication, averaging 8.3 million weekly viewers." People love the wheel.

This isn't the first time pickle has appeared on “America’s Game.” Last year, pickleball was actually the answer to one of the puzzles.

It’s clear to see that the show has fully embraced America's fastest-growing sport.
